Wolverines sweep series with Butte

The Whitefish Wolverines scored four goals in the second period to shed a three-goal deficit and beat Butte 6-5 on Saturday at Stumptown Ice Den, sweeping the weekend series with the Cobras.

Chris Cutshall stemmed the Butte tide with a goal midway through the second, ending a streak of four straight goals.

Kieffer Helbing, who scored in the first period, scored the next two to tie the game and complete his hat trick.

Bryan Polmear scored the fourth of the period to give the Wolverines the lead. Cutshall capped the scoring with his second five minutes into the third period, netting what turned out to be the game winner on an assist from Brett Ferndandez.

Anton Zimmer had two goals and two assists to lead the Cobras.

Whitefish (6-12) beat Butte 5-1 on Friday, scoring the first five goals in the contest to seal the result entering the third period. Dillon Dodge and Evan Carter each scored two goals for the Wolverines.
