A 41-year-old woman and her dog died in a house fire near Lakeside early Thursday morning.

At 3:30 a.m. Thursday, the Somers-Lakeside Volunteer Fire Department responded to reports of smoke coming from the home at 150 Conrad Point Road.

Fire department board of trustees chairman Bill Brass confirmed one resident of the home died in the fire.

Flathead County Sheriff Chuck Curry said a 41-year old woman and her dog perished in the fire. Another resident was not home during the fire. The name of the victim was withheld pending notification of family members.

A flare-up of the fire later Thursday morning brought firefighters back to the scene.

As fire investigators arrived, the fire flared back up, causing smoke to billow from the windows and necessitating another callout of fire crews.

Somers-Lakeside and South Kalispell Fire Departments were the chief responders to the second call.

Brass said the fire was put out once and for all at 10:30 a.m.

The fire remains under investigation by the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office and fire investigation teams.
