Ten shows later, the King of the Cage is still building its audience at the Coeur d'Alene Resort and Casino in Worley.
Tonight, starting at 7 p.m., that audience will be in for a show never before seen in this part of the country.
The co-main event of tonight's show "Tactical Strike" features Coeur d'Alene's Trevor Prangley taking on Richard Blake of California in a light heavyweight bout.
"Richard's had a solid career in MMA and someone that's going to be excited for the crowd," said event organizer Kevin Martin of Trevor Prangley's American Kickboxing Academy. "And he's got the skill set to be in there with Trevor."
Prangley was scheduled to fight Bill Wilder, but Wilder suffered a shoulder injury during training that required surgery.
In the other main event match, Amy Montenegro will face Diana Rael in a women's strawweight division (115 pounds) bout.
"Both of these ladies are legitimate fighters and have taken their time to come up through the ranks," Martin said. "They're really going to put on a show. Both Amy and Diana aren't someone that's 1-1, 2-1. Both have been around for a while and want that opportunity to be shown. And they deserve it."
Will Noland and Jordan Currie, both of Prangley's academy are also scheduled to fight tonight on the 10-bout card.
"After some of Will's most recent fights, we know what Will can do and we think we've got a good guy in Nate Cook of Washington in there with him that's going to excite the crowd," Martin said. "Cook's a kickboxer, so he'll stand with Will and get the crowd into the action they they like to see in the middle of the ring."
Currie, a Post Falls native, will take on Jason Zentgraft of Montana.
"It's going to be a tough battle for Jordan," Martin said. "It's a good test and we're looking for good things from Jordan and see where he's going. It brings some of those fans from Post Falls in, instead of a heavy Coeur d'Alene base, where it used to be a Coeur d'Alene/Spokane. Jordan's just a great guy in general to have on the card."
Over the last 10 shows, the crowds have grown and grown.
"It's amazing," Martin said. "I'm always impressed with the crowds. I think the MMA audience has grown in this area, and I think there's a lot of people that might have yelled things and not known what they were saying previously. Now, when someone is getting taken to the ground, they're yelling encouragement and to get a position or stand up, and are pretty accurate in their coaching. It shows me they enjoy a good ground fight and that they're starting to understand MMA."
Tonight's event will be shown on MAVTV sometime in the next two months.
"It usually takes about five to six weeks after being edited for television and shown the way that the King of the Cage wants them to be shown," Martin said. "The live crowd out there is great. The kids and adults get to see themselves on television, even the athletes enjoy it. It's a great opportunity and King of the Cage provides that. I'm glad they're out here."
