MISSOULA — An investigation by Missoula police determined the recent death of a Missoula County jail inmate was a suicide.

Police say several witnesses reported that 51-year-old Jeffrey Roy Kohlstadt fell from a second-floor railing in a jail pod on Nov. 3 and struck his head on the concrete floor. He died at the hospital later that night.

A coroner’s inquest will be held because Kohlstadt died while in custody.

Kohlstadt had been arrested on suspicion of aggravated domestic assault and violating his parole.
