What's better than a warm bowl of soup on a cold November day?

Eating it with friends while helping others stay warm throughout the winter.

St. Vincent de Paul North Idaho’s annual soup extravaganza to support the homeless offers community members the chance to do just that.

“Souport the End of Homelessness,” in its fifth year, will take place Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds, in the Jacklin Building.

For $10, Souport-ers will be able to sample 40 different types of soups.

“Please come and join us. Fill your tummy, have some fun and know you are making a difference in your community,” states St. Vincent de Paul’s announcement of the event.

Organizers say they’re grateful to “all the cooks from contributing businesses and organizations who each will furnish four gallons” of soup.

Along with the soup sponsors, celebrity greeters will be on hand, including Post Falls Mayor Ron Jacobson and Ceour d’Alene Mayor Steve Widmyer who will clear tables, take out garbage and add to the festive atmosphere.

All the proceeds from this event go toward the St. Vincent de Paul warming centers which open for those without shelter when the temperature drops below 25 degrees.
