Fleater G. Monzingo, 90
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 10 years, 5 months AGO
Fleater G. Monzingo, surrounded by his family, passed peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus on Sunday Nov. 16, 2014.
Fleater was born on Feb. 11, 1924, in Claiborne Parish, La., to Mr. and Mrs. John and Uarda "Goree" Monzingo. During World Ward II he was part of the "Greatest Generation" and proudly served in the Navy aboard the gallant SS Marcus Daly.
After the war he met his wife of 69 years, Irma Tabert, who lovingly supported him throughout his life and working career, which he began by mining at the Knife River Coal mine in Bealuh, N.D. While there, Fleater and Irma decided to move their small family to North Idaho where he worked briefly at Bunker Hill and transitioned to Kaiser Aluminum where he worked on the Hotline for 30 years. They continue to reside in Post Falls where they raised their daughter Yvonne.
In retirement, Fleater enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow, fishing and gardening.
Mr. Monzingo was an honorary 50-year member of the Masons, a member of the Scottish Rite, and attended church at Real Life Ministries in Post Falls.
Mr. Monzingo was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John and Uarda Monzingo, and his brother, James Monzingo.
Fleater is survived by his wife, Mrs. Irma Monzingo; their daughter and son-in-law, Yvonne and Robert Folsom; grandchildren Tracy Folsom, Robert Folsom, Jr. (Katie Folsom), and Charity (Folsom) Ward (Jeffry Ward); and great-grandchildren Kody, Taylor, Jordyn, Benjamin, Colleen, Erica, Kimberly and Nicole.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 21, at Evergreen Cemetery in Post Falls.
The family would like to convey sincerest gratitude for the outstanding care Fleater received at Hospice House of North Idaho in his final days, and ask that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to Hospice House of North Idaho in Mr. Monzingo's name.
English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls has been entrusted with the arrangements. Visit Fleater's memorial and sign the online guestbook at www.englishfuneralchapel.com.
