State and federal agencies will hold a meeting Dec. 11 to update the public on contamination and cleanup plans at the Columbia Falls Aluminum Co. plant.

The public meeting will be from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Little Theater at Columbia Falls High School.

The meeting is organized by the Montana Department of Environmental Quality and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Meeting topics will include recent discussions with CFAC/Glencore (the aluminum plant’s owner) about an administrative order from the state agency and an update from the EPA on additional sampling efforts and the next steps in the cleanup process.

The state and Glencore are negotiating on how best to proceed with further testing and possible remediation of the aluminum plant site.
