SANDPOINT — Bonner General Health officials said the hospital hewed to its safety protocols when it locked out an armed woman who was later shot to death by Sandpoint Police on July 8.

“Our staff responded appropriately to the reported threat and followed our emergency preparedness policies and procedures to ensure the safety of our patients, visitors and staff,” Terri Fortner, community development director, said in a statement.

Jeanetta Riley, 35, was shot outside the hospital after she refused commands to drop a knife, according to video recordings released by the city under Idaho’s public records law. She allegedly advanced on officers before she was fatally shot.
