'Stuff the Bus' toy drive planned Dec. 6

The Flathead Composite Squadron of the U.S. Civil Air Patrol wants the community to “Stuff the Bus” with toys Dec. 6.
The squadron has teamed up with The Salvation Army in Kalispell to spread the holiday spirit and ensure underprivileged children get toys this Christmas.
People are asked to bring unwrapped children’s toys from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 6 to Super 1 Foods in Evergreen.
“We have a 40-foot yellow school bus that will be parked in front of Super 1 Foods in Evergreen that we’re hoping to fill,” Schneller said, noting that Harlow’s Bus Service will loan a bus for the day.
This is the first time the Civil Air Patrol has held this fundraiser and hopes to make it an annual event, according to squadron commander Bob Schneller.
“We’re just hoping everybody comes out and helps us out,” Schneller said. “One hundred percent of the toys gathered on Dec. 6 stay in the Flathead Valley.”
The squadron is made up of cadets ages 12 to 18 and seniors ages 21 and up. Members meet weekly to learn military customs and courtesies, basic flight maneuvers, take trips and participate in civic activities.
“We’re known for marching in parades [and serving as] color guard at special events, but I wanted to elevate their visibility in the community for their community service,” Schneller said.
