Alpaca socks keep you warm as it gets cold

The cold winds of winter were really blowing last night while we were out for a walk with the dogs and getting a little bit of outdoor exercise. Luckily, I had my alpaca socks on, so my whole body was warm and toasty while the dogs were enjoying some time outside.

Forget the itchy wool socks that we remember from our childhood. Alpaca is the next step up from wool with its unique characteristics. It has no lanolin that traps allergens in the fiber and often causes allergic reactions. Alpaca fiber is much thinner and smoother than wool, so there is much less chance it can poke your sensitive skin and give you that "prickly" feeling that we often feel when wearing wool. It is a hollow-core fiber, so it provides thousands of naturally insulating air tubes in each thread, like a mini radiator surrounding your feet. With our patented Alpacor socks you also get the benefit of a durable sock, and it is fantastic at wicking away moisture to keep your feet warm and dry. We hope you can swing by our store this winter to try a pair.

As we finished our walk, my feet were still comfortable and dry leaving me ready for another walk in the morning. Even though the days are shorter, it is important to get outside and enjoy all the beautiful scenery North Idaho has to offer. Last year, we attended the annual lighting event at the resort but got there a little late. We ended up parking seven blocks away and had to make the make the trek down to the resort. We were able to enjoy the show and even wandered around the resort afterwards for another hour enjoying all the lights... again, with nice toasty feet.

As the winter approaches, it is easy to put up the running shoes until spring when the weather warms up. Be sure to make time for exercise all year, because your health is important and being healthy will help you reach your goals. So... put your Alpaca socks on and go for a walk or run. There's a lot to see and experience this time of the year! You'll be happy you did.

Let your mind help you achieve your goals in 2015

With the New Year here, it seems each year flies by a little faster as I find myself looking towards the future and what I want to accomplish in 2015. If you have read any of my articles, you know that I am a big fan of planning my destiny and not letting myself be pulled into reactionary mode from the current day's events. Each year, I look for opportunities to move me out of my comfort zone. I feel it is very important to believe in yourself, and sometimes, it is as simple as finding someone that has done what you want to do, and did it exceptionally well. You can then model what the person did in order to achieve your goal. Say for instance, you want to participate in an Ironman race one year from now. Find someone who has successfully trained and participated in the race and study what they did - food prep, exercises, daily schedules, etc. - so you can get laser-focused on a proven path to pursue. This person will give you the "recipe" for success if you are willing to listen and commit to a plan of action that you can immediately get started on.

Alpaca socks help diabetics with cold feet

This week's blast of snow and cold weather brought many customers into our store in search of warm alpaca socks. I often get to visit with them to understand their needs. A recurring theme I hear from them is cold feet due to diabetes. As a nurse, I witnessed first-hand the toll diabetes takes on my patient's bodies. I also witnessed it in my own family, losing my brother Craig to the disease two years ago.
