<p>Dr. Williams examines Stacy Violett’s facial hair growth. Stacy has worked at Black Mountain Software (BMS) for 20 years. He is the Utility Billing Software Development Lead, and he led the Movember cause here at the Polson BMS office. Stacy and his family live in Polson.</p>

Polson-based Black Mountain Software hosted its second annual facial-hair growing fundraiser in conjunction with the American Cancer Society’s No Shave November campaign. The ‘Movember’ event is designed to raise awareness and money for prostate cancer research. The moustache measuring, beard analyzing, prize giveaways, and donation counting were held Nov. 21 at the BMS offcies in Polson. This year, donations have been collected in moustached piggy banks and online at.Stacy “Griz” Violett won the Best Facial Hair Growth Award. Many other awards were given out (we had 11 participants, and each got a special award), including: Ernest Hemingway Award, Viking Award, Mo’ Cool Award, Thinsulate Award and more. Guest participant Pete “Burly” Bishop won the Chewbacca Award as well as the Most Money Raised Award ($60). Pete doesn’t work at Black Mountain, but knows several of our employees from serving on the Polson Fire Department with them.
Online donations are still being collected through the end of Movember (the month formerly known as November), and we’re confident we will meet last year’s donation amount of $400. Last year the donation went specifically to the Prostate Cancer Research Institute. This year our money will go to the American Cancer Society, said

Raptors in rafters
Almost 600 students from Cherry Valley and Linderman elementary schools recently enjoyed a presentation about hunting birds known as raptors at the Linderman auditorium. Katie Davis, far left, shows off an owl to students and educators rapt in awe. Davis, from Stevensville area, founded Raptors of the Rockies in 1988 and tours schools teaching students about the magnificent birds of prey. The Parent and Teacher Organization paid for the presentation.
