HELENA — The state Board of Medical Examiners has suspended the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician license of a former jailer charged with exchanging cigarettes for sex with three female inmates at the Jefferson County jail.

Rod Mortimore was arrested in April and has pleaded not guilty to seven counts of sexual intercourse without consent. Under state law, inmates cannot legally consent to sex with jail employees.

The board on Nov. 21 summarily suspended Mortimore’s AEMT license and will reconsider the issue in January, when Mortimore’s case is scheduled for trial.

Mortimore also has denied two misdemeanor counts of selling alcohol to someone under the age of 21.

The investigation of a fatal crash on Interstate 15 near Boulder found the 20-year-old driver had purchased alcohol from a convenience store where Mortimore was working on June 25.
