POST FALLS - A male suspect eluded law enforcement late Friday after allegedly leading a deputy on a vehicle chase and fleeing the scene of an accident on foot in Post Falls.
According to the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office, a deputy was northbound on Highway 41 at Interstate 90 just before midnight when he saw a green 1994 Cadillac Seville on the side of the road.
"As he pulled behind the car, it left with its headlights off," said KCSO Lt. Stu Miller, adding that the deputy then activated his lights and siren in an attempt to pull the driver over. "After pursuing the car around the Ross Point area at low speeds, the vehicle eventually sped up to 80 mph on Third from Ridgewood."
At Third and Park Ridge Loop, the suspect driver attempted to turn sharply, but collided with a concrete barrier and a tree, according to the KCSO.
The driver, described as a white man who was wearing a black-hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans, fled on foot.
A perimeter was set up and a search that included a K-9 was conducted, but was not successful.
"The identity of the suspect is not known, although through information collected in the car, we have a lead," Miller said.
Miller said there was evidence of drugs inside the vehicle, but declined to comment further on any leads and the person of interest.
He said the Seville was recently sold and the seller does not know the buyer's name.
Miller said the driver will likely face charges of felony eluding.
Post Falls Police and Idaho State Police assisted during the incident.
