POST FALLS - German heritage will be toasted on Friday night during Oktoberfest at Q'emiln Park.
The 20th annual fundraiser for the Post Falls Historical Society from 5 to 8 p.m. will feature music, German food, locally brewed beer and silent and live auctions.
"Put on your lederhosen (German clothing) and dancing shoes and bring a good appetite to enjoy the food and fun," said Tina-Marie Schultz, a historical society member.
Cost for dinner will be $7 per person and $6 for seniors and children.
The nonprofit Post Falls Community Volunteers will prepare the food. The picnic will include bratwurst on a bun, hot potato salad, hot red cabbage, sauerkraut and dessert. Drinks will also be available.
Auction items include homemade pickles, jams and jellies, kindling, gift baskets and other items.
"We appreciate the community's support of our historical preservation efforts," said Carol Yost, society president. "We will have some fun music to dance, listen and sing to."
The society and its volunteers staff the museum next to City Hall and collects family histories, photos and veteran and school information.
"All of it is important in the appreciation of the people who have lived here and for those who follow," Yost said.
Post Falls has multiple connections to Germany. Its associate city is Herborn, Germany. The city is named after German immigrant Frederick Post.
