PLAINS – Under the lights the Plains Horsemen faced off against the visiting Troy Trojans for a football game in the midst of Plains’ homecoming celebrations.

The homecoming game started quickly with the teams trading scores during the first quarter of play.

“The team had to play kind of on the fly, a few things didn’t go our way,” Plains Head Coach Juan Lulack said.

Troy struck first with a 35-yard score from their all-purpose running back, Sean Opland.

Plains was able to quickly rally and launch an impressive drive of their own featuring some big plays for the home team.

The Horsemen capped off their opening drive of the game with a 50-yard scoring play.

Senior quarterback Ethan Stafford rolled to his right and found senior tight end Kyle Revier wide open towards the sidelines.

Revier eluded tacklers and stiff-armed another Troy defender on his way to a long distance touchdown.

As the game progressed Troy was able to set the pace on the ground and the visiting Trojans put up three touchdowns following Plains touchdown drive.

Nonetheless, the Horsemen got back on the board in the second quarter thanks to some heads up special teams play.

Junior Trent Brouillette the team’s kick return specialist used his speed to burn Troy and take a second quarter kick-off 85-yards down the field for a Plains touchdown.

At the half the score stood at 40-12 in favor of Troy.

Brouillete would make his presence known again in the second half, scoring on a 50-yard touchdown pass from Stafford in the fourth quarter.

The Horsemen followed the touchdown up with an impressive display of trickery, catching the Troy defenders out of position and converting the two-point conversion.

The Plains team which has been shorthanded all year will receive some support as three of their players who have not yet played this season will be eligible to play next weekend.

“We are looking forward to some big things out of those guys next week,” Lulack said.

Next week the Horsemen will head west to Thompson Falls for a county matchup with their rivals the Bluehawks.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 3.

“I am looking forward to the next game and hopefully having some improvements,” Lulack said.
