C-Falls Mundel posts top time at T-Falls Invitational

THOMPSON FALLS — Samantha Mundel of Columbia Falls posted the fastest time for girls on Thursday at the Thompson Falls Invitational cross country meet.

Mundel was clocked in 18 minutes, 38 seconds. She was the lone girl to break the 19-minute mark.

Russell Kujala of Plains was the individual winner for the boys, timed in 16:34.

Timberlake, Idaho, won the boys and girls team titles.

Whitefish was second on the girls side and third in the boys standings.

Finishing in the top five were Alex Bartmess of Eureka on the girls side, 19:14, and Keaton Grove of Whitefish was fifth, 17:01.

“Our girls did a great job today,” Whitefish coach Sarah Brist said.

“They packed well in the race and showed a tremendous amount of improvement as a team.

“Barrett Gray and Peyton Twete did an excellent job of leading the team,” she continued.

“We are where we want to be (at this point of) the season and looking forward to our next meet on our home course Oct. 11.”

Brist said Grove and Ethan Potthoff “had season best races and did an excellent job of leading the team.  Our 4-5 runners are coming along nicely.”
