Tonight's games
All at 7 p.m.
Hermiston (Ore.) at
Coeur d'Alene
Sandpoint at Lake City
Moses Lake at Post Falls
Lakeland at Timberlake
St. Maries at Priest River
Kootenai at Lewis County
Timberline at Lakeside
Take your pick.
All three local 5A schools have home football games tonight.
And the local 4A school is playing its in-district rival.
For the big schools, it's the last week before league play starts. Next week, Coeur d'Alene visits Lewiston, and Lake City hosts Post Falls in 5A Inland Empire League opener. Also next week, Lakeland hosts Sandpoint in the 4A IEL opener.
But until then ...
Hermiston, Ore. (4-0) at Coeur d'Alene (4-1): The Bulldogs, coming off a 52-26 victory over Lewiston last week, are ranked fourth by The Oregonian newspaper in class 5A, the state's second-largest classification.
Chase Knutz has thrown for 988 yards in four games, and Cory Adams and Samuel Colbray have combined to rush for 748 yards and eight TDs. Carson Morter has 21 receptions, eight for touchdowns.
Coeur d'Alene is looking to bounce back after coming inches short in a 13-10 loss to Highland of Pocatello at home.
Sandpoint (3-2) at Lake City (4-1): Talk about looking to bounce back. Lake City is trying to put the memory of last week's 49-24 loss at Tumwater (Wash.) behind it.
After allowing 97 points in losses to Post Falls and University to open the season, Sandpoint has allowed just 48 points in wins over Lewiston, Mt. Spokane and East Valley.
Lake City has won 9 of the last 10 meetings with Sandpoint, including a 70-30 triumph at Sandpoint last year.
Moses Lake (3-1) at Post Falls (3-2): The Trojans have won two straight after losses to Skyview and University earlier. Moses Lake lost 41-21 at home to Coeur d'Alene two weeks ago, then beat Eisenhower 41-0 last week in Yakima.
Lakeland (3-2) at Timberlake (4-0): 4A Lakeland beat 3A Timberlake 34-6 at home last year, the first breather in a series of close games. Lakeland has won six of the last seven meetings between the two teams, but four of those wins have been by seven points or less.
St. Maries (4-1) at Priest River (2-2): It's the last nonleague tuneup for St. Maries before starting Central Idaho League play next Friday at Grangeville, then hosting Orofino two weeks later.
A win would give St. Maries its most victories in a season since 1999, when the Lumberjacks went 5-4 under Bob Bucsko.
Kootenai (0-4, 0-3 White Star League) at Lewis County (0-4, 0-3): Kootenai is having an uncharacteristic rebuilding year, but Lewis County is REALLY struggling - the Eagles have lost their four games by a combined 234-14. They have two common opponents - Kootenai lost to Clark Fork 34-6 and Timberline of Weippe 24-6; Lewis County lost to Clark Fork 54-8 and lost to Timberline 64-0.
Timberline (3-2, 2-1 WSL) at Lakeside (2-3, 2-1): The teams have one common foe this year - Lakeside beat Kootenai 32-8 last week, one week after Timberline beat the Warriors 24-6.
