Libby High homecoming royalty crowned

A pair of Libby Logger athletes were crowned homecoming king and queen Thursday during the high school’s coronation ceremony.
Senior homecoming king Isaak Jones is a starting receiver on the Logger football team. Fellow senior Dayln Germany, a starter on the basketball, softball and volleyball teams, was crowned homecoming queen. Jones also plays basketball and baseball for the Loggers.
The announcement of king and queen was preceeded by performances from the school conert choir and six-piece jazz band. Former Libby homecoming queen Samantha Hannah delivered a speech reflecting on the day she was crowned and the lessons she has learned since.
“Homecoming is a time to celebrate what home is all about,” Hannah said. “My home set my trajectory through life. If you want to raise your trajectory in life, take your education seriously. I remember when I could not wait to get out of my home, but eventually I learned to appreciate all its comforts.”
Jones said he dreams of visiting the Bahamas so he can lay on a beach and lounge without a care. Jenna Barrick, the coronation’s mistress of ceremonies, mentioned Germany’s intentions of studying elementary education at the University of Montana next year.
Other members of homecoming court were Travis Burrell, Auria Benefield, Dylan Roby and McKenzie Williams.
The Libby Loggers football team hosts Frenchtown at 7 p.m. Friday. A homecoming tailgate party begins at 5:30 p.m. in the school parking lot.

Mountain pleads not guilty to seven Yaak burglary charges
Not guilty, seven times over. That was the plea Monday when Zachary Michael Mountain, 19, was arraigned before District Judge James Wheelis. Mountain faces as many as 140 years in prison for his alleged involvement last year in a string of felony burglaries in the Yaak.

Announcing Libby Loggers football games this year is a predictable endeavor. With the passing game aching from the absence of graduated All-State quarterback Jared Winslow, the Loggers are a committed ground team. Reminiscent of the era when offenses were pleased with three yards and a cloud of dust, the Loggers run game repeatedly rams the ball right into the teeth of the opposing defense.
