BUTTE — A 33-year-old Butte man has died of injuries suffered in an apartment fire.

Butte-Silver Bow County deputy coroner Lori Durkin said that Leonard Birkelo died Thursday night at St. James Hospital in Butte.

Birkelo’s upstairs neighbor reported his basement apartment was on fire at about 4 a.m. Thursday. Fire Marshal John Lasky says it appears a sofa bed caught fire after being too close to a heater.
