Nancy Davitt, 66, of Rathdrum, Idaho, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014, surrounded by family.

Nancy was born in Chicago, Ill., on Nov. 18, 1947, to Lawrence and Margaret Gates. She graduated from Proviso East High School in 1966, and married Joe Davitt in 1967.

In 1979, Nancy and Joe moved from Chicago to Rathdrum, where they raised their daughter, LeeAnne, and son Shawn.

Nancy was a beloved member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, where she attended as often as her health allowed. She enjoyed spending time with her family, dear friends and enjoyed the accompaniment of her dogs.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Lawrence Gates; and her sister, Barbara. She is survived by her children, LeeAnne Churchill Overbey of Whidbey Island, Wash., and Shawn Davitt, 42, of Portland, Ore.; six grandchildren: Josh Crump, 24, of Post Falls; Michael Churchill, 22, and BayLee Dunsmore, 15, both of Whidbey Island; Cullan Davitt, 13, Declan Davitt, 10, and Keenan Davitt, 4, all of Portland, Ore.; and brother Russell Hartwig, 73, of Arizona.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014, at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 13541 Idaho 53, Rathdrum.
