Glacier National Park officials announced Friday afternoon, Oct. 3, that the Going-to-the-Sun Road was open to motor vehicle traffic from the West Entrance to Big Bend, about three miles west of Logan Pass.

Officials anticipate the Sun Road could open to Logan Pass from the west side this weekend, if weather and road conditions allow. The Sun Road is closed on the east side for road rehabilitation work.

The Sun Road was closed at Avalanche Creek on the west side on Thursday, Oct. 2, because of snow and ice. Snow blanketed the east side of the Park, and the Sun Road was closed on the east side at thefoot of St. Mary Lake.

Visitors traveling at higher elevations are reminded to drive with care and be prepared for snowy and possibly icy conditions, specifically on the trails.
