Chamber to lead JACC

POST FALLS - The Post Falls Chamber of Commerce has taken over temporary leadership of the Jacklin Arts and Cultural Center.
The chamber of commerce's board has approved a management agreement with the nonprofit JACC which will run through January.
Pam Houser, chamber of commerce president and CEO, said the JACC has had financial issues and its remaining board members turned to the chamber for leadership assistance.
"We believe that we can help turn things around within 120 days," Houser said. "The existing JACC board members came to the chamber because we have a large pool of leaders, the chamber is next door to the JACC and we have a great relationship."
The JACC is reorganizing after Shaina Nomee, the center's most recent executive director, and six of the nonprofit's nine board members stepped down earlier this year.
The new advisory board for the JACC will include the three members who have been already serving with the JACC, including Harmony Oaks, Leslie Slezak and Dan Pearce.
Chamber of commerce board chairman Danny Klocko will serve as the JACC advisory board president. Other members on the interim JACC board include Jerry Keane, Jame Davis, Randy Oaks and Christina Petit.
"We tried to put people on the board who have different strengths," Houser said.
Keane, Post Falls' school superintendent, said the school district and chamber of commerce have partnered with the JACC.
"The educational programs they bring to our students are crucial to the ongoing success of our music and arts department," he said. "I am pleased to be a part of the leadership team that will assist the JACC to recognize its full potential and retain this incredible asset in our community."
Helga Wernicke has been retained as the JACC office manager. Rental of the arts center will not be interrupted during the transition.
Cynthia Keck, previous JACC board president, recently moved.
The JACC is on the National Register of Historic Places. It is named in honor of Duane and Susan Jacklin, who were instrumental in spearheading the restoration of the facility.
Art and cultural events, concerts, weddings, receptions, culinary classes, workshops, business conferences and other activities are held at the JACC.
