Potholes Reservoir is beginning to rise daily, as is typical this time of year. Fish have been moving to different locations with over 2.5 more feet of water compared to what was there 10 days ago.

Perch fishing continues to produce limits. Dick Hemore, Frank Bosley, and Amos Trent ventured out in a MarDon pontoon boat and limited on quality perch up to 13 inches. They fished in 22 feet of water along the face of the sand dunes.

The MarDon Dock has been so successful that many fishers are skipping lunch to enjoy a positive crappie, perch and bass bite all day long. One lucky angler, using a hook and a worm, landed a 16 pound channel catfish while dock fishing on October 1, 2014. It's been wonderful to see fishers smiling after a day of enjoying the September weather catch perch, crappie and bluegill on Potholes Reservoir.

Walleye trolling continues to produce quality fish with some limits showing daily. Both Rapala Shad Raps and Spinner and Night Crawler set ups would be your best bet for some nice fish. Fishers choosing to use spinners and crawlers are catching as many as 9 species trolling along the face of the sand dunes.

The fall migration patterns have begun. The sand hill cranes are routinely being seen in the Frenchman Hills and the Royal Slope Area. Many other migratory birds are being seen daily in the Potholes Recreation Area and especially the Columbia National Wildlife Refuge. This is a great time if you enjoy going out for a little bird watching.
