U.S. Sen. Jon Tester, D-Montana, is in Kalispell this morning to cut the ribbon at the opening of Flathead Valley Community College’s new Veterans’ Center.

Open to the public, the event will take place outdoors on the west side of the Learning Resource Center Building at 9:15 a.m. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held inside the Learning Resource Center Building, Room 123A. Cake and coffee will be served afterward, and tours of the Veterans’ Center will be given.

Located in Learning Resource Center Building, Room 111, the Veterans’ Center opened last fall to assist FVCC student veterans and members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families on campus. The 560-square-foot facility serves as the central location for veterans to access resources and assistance regarding their VA benefits, college-related issues and civilian matters. It also serves as a place where veterans can study, take breaks and bond and network with fellow veterans.

Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Tester will present medals, including the Bronze Star, to the family of World War II veteran Robert Hansen.
