Samantha Mundel set a new school record at the Thompson Falls Invitational on Oct. 2, winning the race in 18 minutes, 38 seconds. Her time eclipses the previous school record, also set by Mundel, from earlier this season when she ran in Libby.
As a team, the Wildkats took third. Meredith Stolte placed ninth at 20:58 to break into the top 15.
On the boys side, Glenn Morden paced the Wildcats at 17:47, good enough for 15th place and his fastest time of the season.
Coach Richard Menicke said that overall it was a good race for the program — nine of 10 boys and 11 of the 12 girls had personal best times.
The team travels to Whitefish this Saturday for a race at the high school. Races start at 11 a.m. The following Saturday, Columbia Falls will host the divisional meet at the West Glacier golf course.
The West Glacier course will be fairly flat, Menicke said, but it might not be very fast because of the twists and turns needed to make a three-plus mile course.
