PREP SOCCER ROUNDUP: Lake City girls earn title with tie

POST FALLS — The host Post Falls Trojans finished a full 80 minutes.

The visiting Lake City Timberwolves finished with the 5A Inland Empire League crown.

Tuesday’s match ended in a 4-4 draw.

Havana Johnson recorded a hat trick in the first 10 minutes for Lake City, but a late rally by the Trojans, capped by Sadie Schmeling’s second goal of the night in the 62nd minute, to even the score at 4-all.

“It was a good game,” Post Falls coach Sarah Stevens said. “We’d been playing one half and not finishing games lately. We got behind really early and this group of girls decided today that they weren’t going to do what they’ve been doing. They kept pushing, played for 80 minutes and did well today.”

Lake City (11-2-1, 4-1-1 5A IEL) hosts Sandpoint on Thursday.

Post Falls (3-8-2, 0-4-1) travels to Coeur d’Alene on Thursday.

RATHDRUM — The Hawks could not overcome a 3-0 deficit in the first half, on its way to falling to the Bengals in nonleague play at Rotary Field.

Lewiston led 4-0 after scoring in the 60th minute, then freshman forward Whitney Skalaskiy scored Lakeland’s lone goal 12 minutes later, on an assist by Maddy Murn.

Lakeland (5-7-2) plays a 4A Inland Empire League game at Moscow on Thursday.

COEUR d’ALENE — Alexa Ricks scored two goals for the Panthers in its Intermountain League victory over the Wildcats at Community United Methodist Field.

Coeur d’Alene Charter outshot Kellogg, 19-2.

“There was a good work rate tonight from all the players,” Coeur d’Alene Charter coach Dave Baxter said. “Alexa particularly shined tonight with two solid goals and an all-around great effort, which comes as no surprise given how hard she works on her game.”

Cd’A Charter (11-1-1, 7-0 IML) hosts Priest River on Thursday.

Kellogg (0-13, 0-8) faces Bonners Ferry in the opening game of the District 1-2 tournament on Saturday at Timberlake High at noon.

COEUR d’ALENE — Four Timberwolves players had goals in a 5A Inland Empire League win against the Trojans at the Irma Anderl Soccer Complex, as Lake City capped an unbeaten regular season at 12-0, 6-0 5A IEL.

“It’s a credit to the boys,” Lake City coach Chad Beadell said. “They’ve played super hard, played as a team and done whatever it takes to help each other out and be successful. All the credit goes to them. They’re training hard and I’m happy for them.”

Lake City hosts the No. 4 seed in the opening round of the 5A Region 1 tournament on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Post Falls (7-5-1, 1-4) hosts Coeur d’Alene (11-2, 3-2) on Thursday, needing a win to clinch the third spot. Lewiston finished the season 1-5 in league. Coeur d’Alene hosts the No. 3 seed at 2 on Saturday.

LEWISTON — Nacho Pino scored the lone goal of the game on a header off a corner kick into the upper left corner, helping the Hawks beat the Bengals in nonleague play at Walker Field.

“It’s definitely always tough to go to Lewiston,” Lakeland coach Andrew Craig said. “They’re always a good team at home. So to come out with a win is pretty good.”

Lakeland (5-8) hosts Moscow on Thursday in a 4A Inland Empire League game.

The Bengals fell to 5-10.
