ST. REGIS – The St. Regis Tigers faced another breed of Tiger last weekend as they played host to the team from Mullan on their home field.

St. Regis had suffered from injuries earlier in the season but looked to be healthy for the most part late in the season and were poised to show the team from Idaho how six man football is played.

Mullan would score first in the game but St. Regis answered right back with a score of their own making it 6-6 in the first quarter. The point after from St. Regis was good making it 8-6.

Mullan would score two more times in the first quarter but St. Regis would rebound on a long run from Gibson Lowry. Lowry decided he wasn’t done rushing for yardage and promptly ran the ball into the end zone for a touchdown. Mullan ran the ball in for one more score in the first quarter and the period ended with the score 25-14.

Mullan started the second quarter with another touchdown making the score 31-14 and then on the ensuing kickoff, the team recovered an onside kick and scored another touchdown on their next drive.

St. Regis would get back into the game with just minutes left in the half with a score of their own making it 39-20. The half ended with the score 51-20.

A Mullan score to start the second half was called back on a holding penalty. The third quarter would end with the score 58-20. The game would end with that score. Head Coach Rob LaBrie said despite the loss, he did see some good things on the field.

“There were moments where we had some good things happen,” LaBrie said. “Mullan definitely came in ready to play a game. We did make some big plays. We are definitely on the right track. We need to work more on fundamentals. Miscues hurt us on offense but our guys did make some big plays and we are still building for the future.”

The next game for the St. Regis Tigers will be at home at 6 p.m. on Thursday versus another Idaho team, this one from Wallace.
