Shirley Ann (Sand) Lindgren passed away on Sept. 20, 2014, at the age of 79, in Portland, Ore. She had been living in Dufur, Ore., for the last years of her life but had strong ties to the Kalispell area.

Shirley was born to Anthony and Dorothea Sand on July 18, 1935, in Buckman, Minn.

Her early years were spent in Minnesota and Montana. While in Montana, she met and fell in love with Eugene “Gene” Lindgren, spending over 61 years together. They were married in The Dalles, Ore., on Oct. 25, 1952. A family of four followed; son, Ricky, and daughters, Debra, Denise and Catherine.  Raising the family and supporting Gene in his logging ventures filled Shirley’s time. There was also time to enjoy bowling as well as working in retail sales. After retirement, Gene and Shirley lived for a time on Bitterroot Lake near Marion, and traveled with many trips to back and forth to Oregon and Arizona to visit family and friends.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Gene, and her son, Ricky.

Shirley will dearly be missed by her family, including her brothers and sister in Montana, as well as all who knew her.

A gathering of Shirley’s family and friends will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Oct. 11 in at the Catholic Hall in Dufur. All are welcome to come and share memories and thoughts of Shirley’s life with us. The Spencer, Libby and Powell funeral home in Dufur is helping with the services.
