Blackwell Island boat launch to begin seasonal closure

The Bureau of Land Management's Blackwell Island recreation area and boat launch will close for the season at 11 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13.
The annual seasonal closure is primarily because the drawdown of Lake Coeur d'Alene makes launching difficult due to low water levels. The Blackwell Island recreation area is open for the public's enjoyment from before Memorial Day through mid-October.
The BLM offers an alternative launch site for boaters, at the Mineral Ridge boat launch on the east side of Lake Coeur d'Alene. The launch is open year-round, and the $40 annual pass covers both Blackwell Island and Mineral Ridge. Daily rates at the Mineral Ridge launch are $6 per day.
