A Cataldo man was booked into Kootenai County jail Thursday night on suspicion of battery, domestic battery and attempted strangulation.

The man was accused by his fiancee of choking her and dragging her around their home, according to a Kootenai County Sheriff's Office report.

The alleged victim, who also has a child with the man, was taken from the home on the 33000 block of east West Street, near Cataldo, for a medical evaluation.

One witness, who lives with the couple, told the sheriff's office investigators that the suspect was screaming "The Power of Christ," "I'm the son of Jesus" and "I'm the son of God," according to the arrest report. Another witness reported similar behavior by the suspect.

The alleged victim described her fiance as being "possessed" and said his voice sounded "demonic." The suspect also was interviewed by investigators.

"When I asked (the suspect) what had happened he told me that he had gotten 'way too physical' and said he grabbed and shoved (his wife-to-be) and 'drug her ass' on the floor by her neck," the report said. "(He) threw her in the (bed)room and proceeded to try to 'choke a confession' out of her."

He also allegedly told the investigators he knew what he was doing was wrong. "(He) said if he barely touched her then it 'wouldn't work' and said he needed to strike fear in her," the report said.
