WALLA WALLA, Wash. - Adam Talley scored his Northwest Athletic Conference-leading 17th goal of the season in the 29th minute, but the Cardinals suffered their first loss of the season, falling to the Warriors in NWAC East Division play.

"To have the record we had heading into today, we had some luck along the way," NIC coach Ken Thompson said. "We didn't get any luck today. They were hungrier than we were. Our last couple of games have been dramatic. We complicated things today by not connecting passes and didn't play a full 90 minutes."

NIC (11-1-2, 9-1-1 NWAC, 28 points) hosts Columbia Basin next Saturday at Eisenwinter Field.

Walla Walla (8-4-3, 7-3-1, 22 points) moves past Spokane for third in the division. The top three teams advance to the conference playoffs starting on Nov. 8.

First half - 1, WW, Ricardo Saldana (penalty kick), 5:00. 2, WW, Vincente Flores (Francisco Sanchez), 14:00. 3, NIC, Adam Talley (unassisted), 29:00. Second half - 4, WW, Jose Anguiano (Sanchez), 50:00.

Shots on goal - NIC 10, WW 6.

Saves - NIC, Mitch Markovetz, 2; WW, Francisco Flores, 2.
