Schools compete in county match

PLAINS – Plains High School played host for an inner-county rivalry match last week as the Plains Trotters competed against the Thompson Falls Lady Hawks.

The match, held on Thursday, Oct. 8, was full of momentum shifts and started with the Trotters putting up a dominant performance in the first set.

Plains jumped out to an early lead in the opening set and were able to take the first frame of competition by a score of 25-15.

Junior Leah Thompson of Plains had an impressive match for the Trotters adding five blocks and nine kills to the team’s effort.

Thompson also added nine aces from the service line during the match.

Despite going down one set on the road, the girls form Thompson Falls were able to maintain their composure and take the next three sets to win the night’s match in four sets.

The Lady Hawks won the second set by a score of 25-13, the third set 25-12 and the fourth and final set by a score of 25-7 to take the District 7-B match.

Junior Shey Hannum sparked the Lady Hawks offense, putting away seven kills during the course of the match.

Senior Logan Beckman made big contributions for Thompson Falls serving, as she earned seven aces for her team.

The Thompson Falls girls combined for 26 kills, six blocks, 39 digs, 22 assists and 20 aces.

The Trotters teamed up for 20 kills, 14 blocks, four digs, 13 assists and 12 aces.

Up next for the Lady Hawks will be an away match against Bigfork, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 18, at 4:30 p.m.

The Trotters will next take on the Eureka Lady Lions on the road.

The match is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 18 at 3 p.m.
