SANDPOINT - A Priest Lake man's jury trial on sex trafficking charges in North Dakota is being pushed back again.
Michael Thomas Sackett's trial was set to start this week in U.S. District Court, but it's being postponed because his defense counsel fell ill, court records show.
The three-day trial is reset for Feb. 18, 2015, in Bismarck, N.D. The case has a priority setting, according to court documents.
Sackett, 47, is free on his own recognizance while the case is pending.
Sackett was indicted by a grand jury last year for attempting to lure a 12-year-old girl into committing a commercial sex act in Williams County, N.D. He pleaded not guilty to the felony offense.
Sackett is alleged to have responded to an offer for sex with a 12-year-old girl, according to a report published in The Bismarck Tribune.
Sackett and Jordan Scott Christiansen were arrested in a federal human trafficking enforcement sting as part of Operation Safe Bakken. The operation was meant to address the increased crime rate in the booming oil patch country.
Christiansen pleaded guilty last month to a charge of coercion and enticement, according to the Tribune report.
The criminal complaint in Christiansen's case stated that he responded to a Craigslist post last year that was made by an undercover police officer posing as a parent offering a 14-year-old foster child for sex.
After a series of exchanges with the officer, Christiansen offered to trade a $250 shotgun for sex with the child. He was arrested at a Williston, N.D., hotel were the rendezvous was to take place.
Christiansen, a 24-year-old from Anaconda, Mont., was sentenced to 30 months incarceration with credit for time served, the newspaper reported. He is required to register as a sex offender.
