Lady Loggers volleyball outlasts Thompson Falls

The Lady Loggers bounced back from a tough weekend in Missoula to take down the Thompson Falls Lady Blue Hawks in five sets Tuesday night.
Libby’s front line pounded out 56 kills in the match and had seven blocks. Libby set the tone early in the first set with three blocks and a handful of Blue Hawk kills stymied at the net. After taking the game 25-21, the Libby attack stalled in the middle of the second and the Hawks won 25-20. In the pivotal third set, setter Ashley Walker had 12 assists to five different Loggers hitters to propel them to a 24-19 lead. That lead almost slipped away before Libby won 25-23.
Coach Cindy Ostrem-Johnston commented, “It was a solid team effort to take the win. Ashley did a good job running the offense.”
In the fourth game, Thompson Falls once again refused to go down easily, coming back from a four-point deficit to win the set, 25-21, and send the match to a deciding fifth set. The Lady Loggers jumped out to a 6-1 lead as Hannah England came off the bench with three aces and a kill. Hailley Moe had seven of her team-high 19 kills to help finish off the match 15-9.
“When I called on Hannah to serve in the fifth set she was determined to make a difference,” said Coach Ostrem-Johnston. “Moe had a spectacular night at the net and Devon Gallagher did a nice job of mixing things up, adding 14 more kills.”
The froshmore and junior varsity squads also came away with wins during the evening.
Libby (2-2, 6-2) hosts Kalispell at 1 p.m. Saturday.
