Volleyball roundup: Bigfork rolls over St. Ignatius

ST. IGNATIUS — Marissa Hiza had 12 of Bigfork’s 33 kills and Abbie Fraley led in digs with seven and aces with eight as the Valkyries defeated St. Ignatius 25-17, 25-22, 25-22 on Thursday in Class B volleyball action.
Hiza and Miranda Campbell both had two blocks.
Bigfork led in four of the five statistical areas. St. Ignatius edged Bigfork in digs, 28-27.
The victory lifts Bigfork to 8-6 overall.

LIBBY — Columbia Falls (9-1 overall, 5-0 Northwestern A) rallied from a first set loss to top Libby (6-3, 2-3) in four sets, leaning on its powerful front line to sway the momentum of the match 18-25, 25-23, 25-14, 25-17.
The Wildkats had 14 blocks, led by eight from Winter Kemppainen, to stifle Libby’s offense, which had been rolling in the first set.
“They have a great offense, too,” Libby coach Cindy Ostrem-Johnston said. “They have hitters coming at you all over the place in the front row. But, the blocking shut our offense down.
“I thought we played them really tough the first two games then let them get away from us in the second two.”
The Loggers Hailley Moe had a match-high 13 kills, Mahalah Wedel had 27 digs and Hannah England had 30 assists and six aces.
Ciera Finberg and Carla Nicosia each had 10 kills for Columbia Falls and Shay Fishel had 14 digs.

TROY — Amanda Peterson knocked down a match-high 11 kills and shared the block lead with Elliott Peterson at two apiece in Eureka’s District 7B victory over Troy.
Eureka won 25-16, 25-9, 25-13.
Rebecca Rotolo had six digs for Troy and Olivia Roach finished with four kills.

POLSON — Whitefish won the first two sets, then need to pull out a tight win in the fifth to claim the Northwestern A victory over stubborn Polson.
The scores: 25-18, 25-23, 17-25, 7-25, 15-13.
Polson blew a 23-18 lead in losing the second set, but regrouped to take the next two.
Polson held a big edge in kills, 51-33, and in aces, 22-8.
Jaiden Toth, Libby Clay and Lauren Lefthand had six aces each for Polson.
Haley Fyant had 18 kills and two blocks. Both were team highs for Polson.
Myndie Holbrook had eight kills for Whitefish.
