PREP VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Vikings, Bengals win to open Region 1 tourney

COEUR d'ALENE - Megan Ramseyer had 25 kills, 16 assists and 12 digs to lead the top-seeded Coeur d'Alene Vikings past the fourth-seeded Post Falls Trojans 25-5, 25-16, 19-25, 25-20 in the opening round of the 5A Region 1 tournament on Saturday at Elmer Jordan Court.

Ali Williams had 10 kills and 16 assists, Missy Huddleston eight kills and 25 digs for Coeur d'Alene (17-3), which hosts second seed Lewiston in the championship match on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

"Our play in game one was flawless," Coeur d'Alene coach Dee Pottenger said. "We played very aggressive, blocked a lot of balls and we were pretty much in system the whole game."

Allison Munday had 10 kills, Lydea Schneider 20 assists, Amanda Westlake three aces, Brooke Bowers 18 digs and Cassidy Jackson and Brittany Dietz three blocks each for Post Falls (10-21), which visits third-seeded Lake City in a loser-out match on Tuesday.

"Post Falls played tough," Pottenger said. "In our league, every team brings their 'A' game to regionals and anything can happen."

LEWISTON - Brittany Gay had 32 assists and CC Cates 23 digs for the third-seeded Timberwolves in a 21-25, 25-19, 25-15, 25-18 loss to the second-seeded Bengals in a 5A Region 1 tournament match at Booth Hall.

Natalie Taylor had 17 kills and Nina Carlson three blocks for Lake City (16-10), which hosts fourth-seeded Post Falls in a loser-out match on Tuesday.

Lewiston (27-2), which has won the last two state championships, visits top-seeded Coeur d'Alene in the championship match on Tuesday.

falls to Reardan

SPIRIT LAKE - Matraca Rocheleau had 21 assists, eight kills, two aces and six digs for the Tigers in a 25-23, 25-21, 25-21 nonleague win over the Hawks.

Jacquelyn Mallet had nine kills and seven digs, Becca Castle five blocks and Courtney Eaton 11 digs for Timberlake against Lakeland.

Details from Lakeland's match against Reardan were not reported.

Later, Rocheleau had 19 assists, 18 digs and three aces for the Tigers in a 25-14, 18-25, 25-18, 25-23 loss to Reardan.

Katie Malloy had three blocks and Mallet 15 digs and eight kills for Timberlake against Reardan.

Timberlake opens the 3A District 1 tournament on Tuesday as the third seed, facing second-seeded Kellogg in Bonners Ferry.

"The players did a great job of playing as a team," Timberlake coach Michelle Garwood said of the day. "They fought hard to the end."

Lakeland travels to Moscow in a loser-out match in the 4A Region 1 tournament on Thursday.

'Jacks fall to Bulldogs,

Charter eliminated

TROY - Kristin Womack had 19 kills and Catherine Flach had 13 digs and two blocks for the top-seeded Lumberjacks, which lost a semifinal match to the second-seeded Bulldogs 25-21, 16-25, 15-25, 25-22, 16-14 in a semifinal game in the 2A District 1-2 tournament at Troy High.

Kelsey Auer had 45 assists, Paige Sines three aces and 13 digs for St. Maries (13-10), which faces third-seeded Orofino in a loser-out match on Monday at 4:30 p.m. in Troy.

The winner advances to face Grangeville at 6:30, needing to beat the Bulldogs twice to advance to the state 2A tournament in Buhl starting on Oct. 31.

"We came out really strong in the third game," St. Maries coach Amy Scheer said. "We had a player come down with the flu right before the match, but the girls played really well with having to make that adjustment right before the match. They played well the entire day."

Earlier, St. Maries defeated fourth-seeded Coeur d'Alene Charter 25-12, 25-13, 25-21 in the opening round. Grangeville beat Orofino in the other opening-round match.

Auer had 33 assists, Kari Ghramm 15 kills and Flach 10 digs for St. Maries against Coeur d'Alene Charter.

Anna Verhaeghe had 10 digs and two blocks, Jackie Callihan five assists and two aces and Nicole Young three kills for Coeur d'Alene Charter against St. Maries.

Stephanie Kociela had eight kills and nine digs, Callihan 10 assists and Verhaeghe nine digs for Coeur d'Alene Charter in a 11-25, 25-15, 25-21, 25-18 loss to Orofino in a loser-out match.

"The girls played really well," first-year Coeur d'Alene Charter coach Tera Armstrong said. "They stepped up their game and ended the season feeling like they'd gave it their all."

Madi Aittama had two aces and Soersha Lewis two blocks against Orofino for Coeur d'Alene Charter, which finishes 8-14.

North Idaho Christian

takes two in Kalispell

KALISPELL, Mont. - Katelyn Stegman had nine assists and six digs for the Royals in a 25-14, 25-21, 25-22 nonleague win against the Flathead Valley Home School Association.

Grace Gipson had six aces and Rayla Andrews five kills and four blocks for North Idaho Christian against Flathead Valley.

On Friday, Stegman had nine assists and Andrews five kills and two blocks in a 27-25, 25-11, 25-9 win against Stillwater Christian.

Ilysa Emerson had three kills and two blocks and Grace Gipson four aces against Stillwater Christian.

North Idaho Christian (12-5) visits Christian Center on Tuesday.
