A Somers man is dead after a house fire Saturday afternoon.
Danny Ray McCarroll, 66, died after the fire at his residence on Seven Row Road in Somers, just off U.S. 93.
The Somers/Lakeside Volunteer Fire Department was called to the house fire around 3:30 p.m.
First responders saw heavy smoke and fire pouring from the house. Fire Chief Dave Hayes said the fire was largely contained to the living room, but McCarroll was unable to make it out by himself.
A neighbor, Darren Hall, pulled McCarroll from the burning room. Several neighbors tried to find vital signs on McCarroll and perform cardio-pulmonary rescuscitation, but it was too late.
A dog was also in the home, according to the fire department’s Facebook page. After the dog was rescued from the fire, a firefighter administered CPR and the animal was rushed to the veterinarian by the Montana Highway Patrol.
The dog’s condition is unknown.
Flathead County Sheriff Chuck Curry said the cause of the fire and manner of McCarroll’s death are under investigation.
Crews from the Lakeside Quick Response Unit and Bigfork and Smith Valley fire departments also responded to the fire.
