Troy recently completed the installation of 13 new light posts along the town walkway. Mayor Darren Coldwell said the $42,000 cost was split three ways: a $22,000 grant from the state, $10,000 from Lincoln County and $10,000 from Troy. Coldwell said most of the Troy money comes from an economic development grant.

“We checked and there are pretty broad strokes allowed for what exactly we want to do with that money,” Coldwell said. “We had a resident come to us talking about how dark it is out there. We have done a lot of landscaping to improve the walkway, and we thought it would be nice to match the lighting we have at Roosevelt Park.”

Each new light post holds 86 light-emitting diodes and, according to Coldwell, cost a nickel a day to operate.

The city walkway begins at the town museum and ends at Third Street.

Coldwell said the city will begin looking into planting several trees near the train tracks to create a noise buffer. Train whistles were audible in the background while Coldwell mentioned the plan.
