Red will be a familiar sight with Red Ribbon Week underway today through Nov. 1.

The annual celebration brings awareness to drug abuse and prevention. Flathead CARE, a drug and alcohol-prevention organization, has distributed thousands of red ribbons to students in Flathead County schools.

The ribbons may be used for admission discounts to several fun events.

Additional ribbons are available at the Red Lion Hotel and at the Flathead CARE office in the Linderman Education Center building, 124 Third Ave., E.

2014 Red Ribbon events are:

  •  Grades six through eight are invited to attend a Halloween dance from 8 to 10 p.m. today at Kalispell Middle School. Costumes are encouraged. Masks are not allowed. Admission is $2 with a red ribbon or $3 without.
