While people pay to get scared at Scarywood Theme Park - Silverwood's October feature - one Eastern Washington man acted violently when it actually happened.

Just before 10 p.m. Thursday night, the Deer Park man, who is in his mid-20s, punched a female actor after she jumped from the shadows and "spooked" him, according to an incident report written by a Kootenai County Sheriff's Office deputy.

The woman, a Moscow resident, was performing her routine at one of the park's "haunted attractions," which have names like "Total Darkness," "Blood Bayou," "3-Dementia," "ZombieWood Express," and "The Ancient Ruins."

The park warns on its website: "Scarywood may be too intense for young children and is not recommended for children 12 and under."

Mark Robitaille, a spokesman for Silverwood, said Friday that park officials were aware of the "unfortunate incident."

"Our cast member was struck as a reaction of a guest being scared," Robitaille said. "Thankfully, she didn't receive any serious injuries."

He said the matter was promptly handled by park security.

"We consistently take the utmost priority to ensure our guests and cast members are safe," Robitaille said.

The Deer Park man told deputies he "flung his hand up, accidentally striking an actor," the deputy wrote. "He told me it was an accident and he apologized for his actions."

The actor told deputies that after she jumped out to scare the man, "he turned, looked at her, then struck her in the face with a closed fist," the deputy wrote. The woman had a small abrasion visible on her upper lip, but said she didn't need medical attention.

The woman told the authorities she wished to press charges, and Silverwood security asked that the man be removed from the park. Deputies escorted him off the property.

Lt. Stu Miller of the sheriff's office didn't respond Friday when asked for additional information about a possible arrest or criminal charges being filed.
