HAYDEN - A shiny blue 2008 Land Rover LR3 rolled into the Walmart parking lot Thursday night.
A 29-year-old Post Falls man exited, wearing a red Budweiser baseball cap, and entered the store.
Before long, he caught the attention of loss-prevention officers inside.
They saw him, allegedly, steal two $150 rifle scopes, according to a Kootenai County Sheriff's Office incident report.
The loss prevention crew watched as he allegedly used a knife to remove plastic packaging from the scopes, then stuff them into his pants.
Store officers then followed the man as he left the store without paying.
A deputy responding to a theft report pulled the man over as he was leaving the Walmart parking lot and turning west onto Honeysuckle Avenue in his SUV.
The deputy soon found two black Nikon rifle scopes on the front seat of the SUV, along with a portable wireless speaker under a jacket.
Deputies also found several boxes of rifle ammunition in the center console, along with a 16-ounce can of Mike's Harder Strawberry Lemonade, which had spilled on the boxes.
The deputies weren't able to determine if the ammunition was stolen.
A portable speaker valued at $50, however, was missing from the store.
The man - flashing forearm tattoos of Iron Cross and one of the word "PRIDE" - was booked into Kootenai County jail for petit theft.
"During the booking process, (the man) told me he was not going to fight the theft of the scopes and speaker, because he had just been 'stupid,'" the arresting deputy wrote in his report.
