ROYAL CITY - Royal High's volleyball girls dropped at volleyball match to River View, 19-25, 8-25, 18-25 last week.

It was what the girls did off the court was more noteworthy. They paid tribute to breast cancer awareness with a pinkout night.

The Royal girls wore pink shorts, socks and hair accessories. They even played with a pink volleyball.

The girls held a raffle from which proceeds will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Cancer Foundation.

"Our pinkout night had great spirit and crowd," Coach Paul Olsufka said. "We just were not able to convert enough points on our hits. We were competitive in two of the games."

Highlights for Royal included Lindsey Small with 6-for-6 serving and three kills, Ashley Valle with 7-7 serving, Taylor Freeman with 6-7 serving and one kill, Kailee Harris with two kills, Jacie Phillips with 5-6 serving and two aces and Alyx Ziegler with 10-10 serving.

Over the weekend, the Knights played in a tournament at Burbank with matches against Sunnyside Christian, Prosser and River View.

"We played well, but we were not able to make it into the finals," Olsufka said. "We stayed up with Prosser in the first game."

"I'm seeing moments when we play well," Olsufka added. "We just need to sustain it for the duration of the game and match."
