Local teams launch new speech, debate season

Columbia Falls, Loyola, Libby and Bigfork took first place in class A and B speech, debate and drama events at a tournament last weekend in Polson.

About 120 students from eight schools competed at the Piratepalooza hosted by Polson High School. The tournament kicked off the season for local schools.

Columbia Falls dominated Class A speech with 142 points followed by Whitefish with 61 points and Polson with 22. Loyola took first place in Class B speech with 99 points followed by Bigfork with 28 and Ronan with 26.

Libby swept Class A drama with 40 points; Frenchtown was second  with 8 points. Bigfork took first place in Class B drama with 24 points.
