COEUR d'ALENE - For the fourth year, The Fedora Pub and Grille is opening its doors for a free community Thanksgiving dinner.

And you can do your part to help.

Monetary donations and volunteers are being sought for dinner at the restaurant at 1736 W. Kathleen in Coeur d'Alene on Nov. 27 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

"Last year 1,300 people were served and this year we're anticipating 1,500," said John Malee, owner of The Fedora.

Malee said $2,000 needs to be raised to reach the $7,500 needed for the event. He said any remaining funds go toward the following year's event.

The Fedora has partnered with nonprofit Elder Help of North Idaho, so donations for the dinner are tax-deductible. Donations should be made at The Fedora and checks written to the restaurant, care of the Thanksgiving dinner. Donors will be given a tax identification number for tax-deduction purposes. Malee said The Fedora does not profit from the event.

Volunteers, including servers, a cleanup crew and dish washers, are needed. To sign up, visit the "Volunteer Center" at www.kootenaiunitedway.org. Volunteers work two-hour shifts.

Anyone is welcome to attend the dinner.

"Even with all the growth here, we are all still so small-town when it comes to being there for each other when it counts," Malee said. "This is our way to help make it count. The time and stories people were willing to share with us were priceless."
