GREAT FALLS  (AP) — The program director of a Northwest Montana conservation group is complaining the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation said it would charge $530 for information the group requested about a $3 million forestry management effort Gov. Steve Bullock announced in July.

Arlene Montgomery with the group Friends of the Wild Swan asked the state agency on July 17 for more information about logging projects, including an agreement calling for 490 acres of logging around Chessman Reservoir near Helena.

She also sought information about discussions taking place with counties.

DNRC Director John Tubbs said that fulfilling Montgomery’s request would take about 14 hours of staff time.

He says much of the information Montgomery requested will soon be added to the Forests in Focus website and will be available at no charge.
