THOMPSON FALLS – The Lady Hawks put on quite the performance at the Mission tournament, bringing home a Class B win for the team.

The girls were in the bottom half of the eight teams who competed during the tournament, and fought their way to the top. The girls won 98 points in the pool play, landing them in fifth place.

In the first round, the Lady Hawks went up against familiar faces as they competed against their county rivals, the Plains Trotters. The ladies gave it their all in the fierce competition, taking the first round win with 20-14, 20-17.

The girls continued onto the semifinals where they faced Deer Lodge. Here they tasted success again with a win of 16-20, 20-10.

In the finals the ladies went up against Eureka, where they came out with another win 20-15, 20-12.

According to Head Coach Sandra Kazmierczak, the Mission tournament always serves as a good start to the year and the coach uses the time to determine which positions are right for the kids. Although all the older athletes are already placed into a position, the younger players are still trying to find what role is right for them.

This year the team has a varsity roster with 10 kids, up two from last year.

The team’s next game will be against Florence on Sept. 4 in an away game. Their first home game of the season will be on Sept. 6 against Loyola.
