Corvallis sweeps Whitefish in soccer

WHITEFISH — Katelyn Frost netted two goals for Corvallis to lead the Blue Devils in a 3-1 Class A soccer victory over the Whitefish Bulldogs on Friday.

Frost scored her second goal in the 56 minute after teammate Corinne Sanderson’s finish in the 48 minute.

Whitefish avoided the shut out when sophomore Haley Nicholson scored at the 75-minute mark. Her finish was assisted by sophomore Julia Houston. The Bulldogs register 23 shots to Corvallis’ nine.

“It was our second game of the season. We’re still building on each game and each week with what we’re going to focus on in practice,” Whitefish coach Wendy Farrens said.

“We had lots of opportunities on the attack. Unfortunately, we only had one finish, but we’re seeing good things and we’re excited to move forward.”

Whitefish opens Northern A play on Tuesday hosting Libby at 4 p.m.

BELGRADE — Freshman Hannah Gedalman’s unnassisted goal in the 42nd minute proved to be the game winner as the Wildkats hung to defeat Belgrade.

It was Gedalman’s second goal of the match. Her first, breaking a 0-0 tie early in the contest, was assisted by junior Ellie Johnson.

Johnson also assisted senior Lindsay Strouse’s goal that gave Columbia Falls a 2-0 lead in the first half.

Columbia Falls plays at Livingston today at 1 p.m.

Joe King had a hat trick in the first 10 minutes of play and later assisted on four more goals as Stillwater Christian rolled to an easy victory over Great Falls Home School in the Cougar Classic at SCS.

Darren Kauffman had three goals and two assists for Stillwater, which lead 5-0 at the half.

Also scoring goals for Stillwater were Micah Friesen, BJ Bach (2) and Daniel Lambert (2).

Stillwater (2-1 overall) plays Helena Christian School today at noon.

BELGRADE — Chris Brayton scored the only goal of the match in the 15 minute and it stood to be the game-winner as Belgrade beat Columbia Falls .

Wildcats’ goalkeeper Brandon Karberg registered 19 saves in the match while Columbia Falls mustered just three shots on goal.

WHITEFISH — Cayden Ayers scored the first two goals Alejandro Ortiz netted the next two as Corvallis edged Whitefish.

Ayers also had an assist.

Taven Edland assisted on the first goal for Whitefish and scored goals at 52 and 79 minutes.

Whitefish opens Northern A league play on Tuesday at home with Libby at 6 p.m.
