Flooding causes animal rescue center evacuation

GREAT FALLS (AP) — An animal rescue center on Montana’s Hi-Line is cleaning up after flooding last month forced the owners to flee with 45 animals.
The Great Falls Tribune reports RezQ founders Anita and Jim Wilke left with the animals on Aug. 24 after 7 inches of rain fell over three days.
The Wilkes have been able to return to their home adjacent to the center, but most of the dogs are still in foster homes.
Anita Wilke says the flood brought silt and mud that covered everything. The kennels must be cleaned out to be livable again.
The center serves the Fort Belknap and Rocky Boy’s Indian reservations, along with the surrounding area. Anita Wilke says the center has taken in 238 dogs and eight cats so far this year.
