Dragon boats hit the lake

The third annual Montana Dragon Boat Festival will take place on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 13-14, on Flathead Lake, with teams of 20 paddlers and a drummer powering 46-foot long dragon boats.
Races will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday. Spectators can park for $10 at the intersection of Highway 82 and Highway 35 in Bigfork and ride a free shuttle to Flathead Lake Lodge, where admission is free and vendors will have food and beverages.

Whitefish Mountain Resort’s post-season uphill policy expired last week, but with significant snowfall and changing weather conditions, the resort reminds skier and hikers that avalanche hazards in the ski area’s permitted boundaries do exist.
