Chuck Harris, a volunteer firefighter with the Ferndale Fire Department stands at attention with the American Flag as the lone sentinel outside the Ferndale Fire Department on Thursday morning, September 11. Volunteers stand in shifts beginning at 6:46 a.m. (when the first plane took off) until 7 p.m. at night.
